A zero-stop turret lets you dial elevation up for a longer shot, then spin the turret back down until it hits a hard mechanical stop at your original zero — rather than counting clicks or full revolutions back to zero by feel, which is where missed shots and costly miscounts under pressure actually happen. It's most valuable for long-range and tactical/PRS shooting, where you're regularly dialling elevation for distance and need to return to a known zero quickly and with certainty between shots or stages.

Zero-stop mechanisms are more the exception than the rule below roughly £500, become increasingly common through the £500-1,000 range, and are close to standard on scopes built specifically for long-range or tactical/PRS use from around £1,000 upward. If you mostly hold over using reticle subtensions rather than dialling turrets for elevation, zero-stop matters far less to you — it's specifically a dial-shooter's feature, not a universal upgrade every scope benefits from equally.
